A Message from Dr. Dungee - Water Testings

A Message from Dr. Dungee - Water Testings

Dear Central Islip School Community,

Yesterday, News 12 reported on lead water testing results from approximately 60 school districts across Long Island. I’d like to take this opportunity to provide you with some additional context and information.

As I have stated previously, the Central Islip School District is committed to protecting the health and well-being of our students, teachers and staff. In compliance with New York State Department of Health regulations, the district periodically performs lead testing of all water outlets in the school district, performed by J.C. Broderick and Associates, a leading environmental consulting and testing firm. Regulations mandate that districts must promptly remediate any fixture where lead levels exceed 5 parts per billion (ppb).

In October 2025, we posted the results of the most recent testing to our website, along with our remedial action plan. As indicated in this report, initial sampling was conducted in November 2023, with follow-up testing performed in 2024 and 2025. Any potable fixtures found to contain elevated levels of lead were immediately taken out of service, repaired and retested prior to them being returned to service. Any fixture that was non-potable (outlets not intended for drinking/cooking) were clearly labeled. The New York State Department of Health report cited in today’s media coverage is based on testing conducted in 2023 and does not reflect the updated results.

We will continue to post all relevant facilities testing information to our website. If you have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to reach out to Director of Facilities Matthew Providente at 631-348-5000, ext. 1010 or mprovidente@centralislip.k12.ny.us.

As always, I thank you for your continued partnership and support of our schools.

Sincerely,

Dr. Sharon Dungee

Superintendent of Schools
